The 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be the eighth ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament and will be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13, 2022. Previously planned to take place in 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed in July 2020 that they had postponed the tournament because of the COVID-19 disease outbreak. The ICC also revealed in August 2020 that Australia would host the rearranged tournament in 2022, with the T20 World Cup originally scheduled to take place in India in 2021 but later moved to UAE and Oman. The ICC confirmed the tournament’s fixtures on January 21, 2022. Australia, the hosts, is also the defending champion.
Academic credentials and Teams
The twelve teams that advanced to the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 automatically qualified for the tournament in 2022. Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa all qualified for the Super 12 phase of this tournament based on their performances in the 2021 tournament and rankings as of November 15, 2021. Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies were all assigned to the competition’s group stage.
The top two teams from each of the two Global Qualifiers clogged the final four spots. There were sixteen teams in the Global Qualifiers: the bottom four teams from the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (Ireland, Netherlands, Oman, and Papua New Guinea), the next four highest ranked T20I sides, Netherlands and Zimbabwe, were the final two teams to qualify for the T20 World Cup after competing in the Global Qualifier B tournament. Zimbabwe won the Global Qualifier B tournament and was assigned to Group B of the T20 World Cup, while the Netherlands was assigned to Group A.

The ICC T20 World Cup is divided into four groups: Group A, Group B, Group 1, and Group 2. Groups A and B each have four teams, while Groups 1 and 2 will each have six teams after the qualification phase.
